What Zapmed treats (and what we don’t)

Being able to speak to a medical professional from your own home, at a time that suits you, without sitting in a waiting room or taking half a day off work is the heart of what telehealth offers. And it is exactly what we have built Zapmed around.

We cover a range of health concerns, handling everything from ongoing prescriptions to new consultations across several areas of care.

That said, we want to be upfront with you about where our scope ends. Some health matters require highly specialised, in-person assessment that a digital platform simply cannot replicate safely.

Others fall into a category we are legally and ethically required to refer elsewhere, specifically anything that could carry serious or life-threatening risks.

We take both of these boundaries seriously, not because we want to turn anyone away, but because your safety always comes first.

One of the questions that came through recently was this:

I want to find out if I can chat to a dermatologist for intimate area skin issues.

It is exactly the kind of query we appreciate receiving, and it is far from the only one. Our inbox is full of thoughtful, sometimes uncertain, often brave questions from people just trying to figure out whether we can help. We want more of them. Please keep asking. There is no such thing as a question too awkward or too niche to send our way.

Now, to the question at hand.

Can You Speak to a Dermatologist Through Zapmed About Skin Concerns in Private Areas?

The honest answer is: it depends on what you are dealing with.

Zapmed does have the ability to support patients with certain sexually transmitted infections that present symptoms in or around the genital area. If you are concerned about something you have noticed down there and you suspect it could be an STI, offering appropriate treatment is very much within what we can do for you.

Where things get more complicated is with other types of skin concerns in that region. Conditions involving inflammation, suspected allergic responses, or skin infections affecting the intimate area are not something we are currently set up to assess or treat through our platform.

These often require visual examination in person, and in some cases laboratory testing or specialist referral, to be diagnosed accurately and safely. Attempting to manage them remotely without that level of assessment would not be doing right by you, and that is not how we operate.

If you are not sure which category your concern falls into, send us a message anyway. We would rather help you figure that out than have you sit with the uncertainty.

What Does Zapmed Offer?

Here is a full picture of the Zapmed services you can access online.

Contraception

We can prescribe oral contraceptives and can help you find the right option for your body, lifestyle, and health history. Whether you are starting for the first time or looking to switch, our doctors are here to walk you through it.

Sexually Transmitted Infections

From assessment through to prescription, we handle STI consultations with complete discretion and no judgement. Your comfort and confidentiality matter to us enormously.

Erectile Dysfunction

This is one of the most common reasons men reach out to us, and also one of the most underreported. We offer private, supportive consultations and access to effective treatments so that you do not have to navigate this alone.

Hair Loss

Whether you are just starting to notice thinning or have been managing it for a while, we offer treatment options backed by solid medical evidence and personalised to your situation.

Premature Ejaculation

Another area where many people suffer in silence far longer than they need to. Our doctors approach this with sensitivity, and there are real solutions available.

Acne

From mild breakouts to more persistent, stubborn acne, we assess what is going on with your skin and prescribe accordingly, adjusting treatment as your skin responds.

Weight Management

Sometimes you just need to talk to a doctor. Whether it is about a symptom you are worried about, a medication query, or something you have been putting off addressing, we are here for those conversations too.

General GP Consultations

Not everything needs a specialist. For general health concerns, sick certificates, repeat prescriptions, and everyday medical queries, our GPs are here for a proper, attentive consultation.

What We Cannot Treat

There is a category of conditions that telehealth providers are not allowed, or are very limited, in treating conditions that require:

  • a physical examination
  • emergency intervention
  • imaging or lab tests done immediately
  • procedures or surgery
  • high-risk controlled substances

Common examples include:

  • Heart attack symptoms (chest pain, severe shortness of breath)
  • Stroke symptoms (sudden weakness, facial droop, confusion)
  • Severe injuries or heavy bleeding
  • Suspected appendicitis or acute abdominal emergencies
  • Severe allergic reactions/anaphylaxis
  • Psychosis or immediate suicide risk
  • Certain pregnancy emergencies
  • Broken bones needing imaging/casting
  • Conditions requiring hands-on neurological exams
  • Advanced infections needing IV antibiotics or hospitalisation

We May Point You Toward Testing

Sometimes the most helpful thing we can do is not prescribe something but guide you toward the right next step. If you come to us with a concern and, after speaking with one of our doctors, it becomes clear that you would benefit from laboratory testing, imaging, or an in-person review before any treatment is considered, we will tell you that clearly and help you understand where to go.

This is not us turning you away. It is us making sure that whatever happens next is actually right for your health. Getting a proper diagnosis before treatment is always going to serve you better than a guess, however well-intentioned.

You can always come back to us once you have those results, and we will take it from there together.

If you are not sure whether Zapmed is the right fit for what you are going through, feel free to reach out via our website chatbot or social media channels. We would much rather have that conversation with you than have you go without the support you need.
